  • Overview

    The Corrosion Engineer is a technical expert on the selection, joining, forming, finishing and remediation of metallic and non-metallic materials used in the fabrication of ABEC products.  S/he works together with ABEC’s global Service, Engineering, Technology, Operations and Quality organizations to insure that product materials of construction meet customer expectations for performance and service life.  In particular, the Materials Engineer is responsible for developing solutions to support our customers throughout the life cycle of our product offerings, with focus on services to restore surfaces that have deteriorated through use, corrosion or other action.


    • Serve as global subject matter expert for mechanical, electrochemical and chemical surface finishing of metallic materials of construction.
    • Execute laboratory and production-scale tests as required to develop and qualify electrochemical and chemical processes for enhanced surface finishes.
    • Prepare proposals for and oversee on-site remediation projects.
    • Conduct internal training and external presentations to support product initiatives.
    • Assess suitability of process-contact construction materials for identified applications.
    • Dialogue with clients to establish material performance requirements and evaluate available options.
    • Lead root cause analysis to investigate reported hardware failures.
    • Review proposed design elements (e.g. weld and machining details) and fabrication techniques as requested.


    • Bachelor or advanced degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related technical discipline.
    • Minimum six (6) years industry experience in selection/evaluation of metallic materials, enhanced surface finishing processes (e.g. electropolishing; passivation), corrosion control, metallic material surface finishing, material joining, etc.
    • Experience working on cross-functional project teams in a matrix organization.
    • Proven success in working on multiple projects including working with customer teams.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Up to 50% travel, including international travel.   


    Additional/ desired attributes:

    • Familiarity with equipment and systems for bioprocess operations (fermentation, cell culture, filtration, chromatography, cleaning/sterilization/decontamination, etc.).
    • Foreign language skills a plus.
